Estórias estremeñas
Estórias estremeñas is an original collection of three short stories in Extremaduran, combining local folklore, supernatural legend and social history. The first story, "Tras delas mis ovejas", una odissea estremeña, follows Tomás, a young shepherd whose attempt to recover his lost sheep leads him through a series of encounters with figures from Extremaduran folklore, including the Serrana, the Jáncanu and the Entisnau, before he finally returns home. "Quea-ti enos caminus" tells the story of Francisco, a fisherman who encounters a mermaid in the lake near his village and must resist her enchanting voice and the temptation she represents. The final and longest story, "Ya no más", moves into a more realistic setting, portraying the poverty, inequality and tensions between agricultural workers and landowners in an Extremaduran village, culminating in a violent peasant uprising. Together, the three stories explore rural life, traditional beliefs, faith, social injustice and the cultural heritage of Extremadura.
