Euris estremeñus i sotras poemas
Euris estremeñus i sotras poemas is an original poetry collection in Extremaduran, combining historical verse, religious poetry and personal reflections. The first and longest section, Euris estremeñus, consists of four narrative poems about historical figures associated with Spain and Portugal and their American conquests: Viriatu, Hernán Cortés, Francisco Pizarro and Inés de Suárez. Written as historical retellings in verse, these poems recount episodes of war, conquest, resistance and political conflict while presenting their subjects as larger-than-life figures. The second section, Religiosas, contains five poems centred on Christian faith, addressing God directly through reflections on suffering, doubt, perseverance, death and salvation. The final section, Retazus, brings together four shorter poems on love, solitude, rural life and the Extremaduran language itself. Particularly in its closing poem, the collection reflects on why I chose to write in Extremaduran and expresses a hope that its words and traditions will continue to be valued and preserved.
